The emphasis of the Chair is on probing deeper into the past and
present of deprived communities in the Indian society. It is
focused on developing newer methodologies for engaging with
marginalised communities, who may remain difficult to research
through conventional research methods. The Chair is also committed
to developing sensitive, grounded policies, which empower the
marginalised and advance their agency to engage with the state and
other stakeholders.
The Chair seeks to work with a broad spectrum of the marginalised,
including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, Backward
Classes, and other socio-economically weaker sections. We hope
that the Chair will serve as a platform for providing a voice to
those who remain unheard, a cause espoused by Dr. Ambedkar
throughout his life.
The Chair seeks to propagate the philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar and
advance our understanding of the socio-economically weaker and
oppressed sections. It aims to conduct research on marginalised
and deprived communities; develop newer teaching modules and
curricula on familiarising teachers and students with the lived
realities of the marginalised; organise lectures, workshops and
symposia that advance the themes of social justice and
empowerment. The Chair also aims to build networks of national and
global scholars working on Dr. Ambedkar and provide a platform for
the discussion of emerging and established scholarship.
